Senior Poster

Hey everyone, Ive been brainstorming ideas for this years senior poster and I want to know if anyone thinks it would be inappropriate for the poster to have a nude backside of an individual on it. This poster is meant to represent us and our program on the campus as well as in the community. It is hung all over campus and by many local businesses that support and sponsor the senior thesis show. I dont want to explain in detail the image but its funny, quirky, and meant to get the attention of anyone who would glance at it. If there is a general agreement that it would be ok to feature a nude backside, butt and back, then I will set to photographing and then I will post the image for further scrutiny. I think I could make a PG version of the image too but in my opinion it would not be as eye catching, and for our class, just not our style, amirite? If any seniors, or really anyone for that matter, who would like assist me let me know, I will need help schlepping gear and on location lighting. Maybe someone from the lighting class needs some mentoring? Roll it around and let me know what you think. Cheers

Perhaps you could put the image on the blog so we could make a decision, hard to say whether or not it will be appropriate if we cant see it. And where is the image coming from, is it yours?

i agree with steph...i might be interested in helping you out with that...but i know some stuff about lighting so if someone else whos less experienced is interested go ahead and use 'em instead

Yes this is an image that I'm going to make and if the weather would to allow me to shoot sometime soon Steph, ill get a photo up for you to see. But in the mean time, I wanted to know if you think that any nudity would out of the question.

no i dont think it should be out of the question...if its art then there should be no legitimate concerns from anybody...freedom of expression bitches

Haha sooo I asked my mom, who isn't very artsy, what she thought about it and she said she wouldn't mind it. So, its mother approved, go for it!

I generally don't have an issue with nude art photography, but I really need to see it first. Is the purpose of the butt shot just to grab attention? What sort of wording would go along with it?

I have to say, Jackson, both of my parents are pretty extreme conservatives. My mom would probably overlook it as "artsy people...whatever" but I am 100% positive my dad would be offended.

Actually, I know for a fact he would complain about it to the school.

I'm not saying we shouldn't go with this idea (I have no problem with it personally!) but I feel like my parents are probably not the only ones who would feel this way in the community. Just something to keep in mind.

Ive seem a few people at check out and the hall this morning and gotten to explain it. So far its been a big hit and Im going to try to shoot it if we can get a break in the snow. Im going to shoot for the weekend. Two of your peers have volunteered to be naked in this weather and I have few assistants as well. But anyone that wants in on it just for the fun and to be part of it is more than welcome to come along. Its a bit of a hike to the location that I'd like to photograph so if anyone wants to get out this weekend and hang let me know.

I would have to see it first, but don't rule it out. Like Bek said though it's not offending us, we're artsy peeps. It will maybe offend a select few. My family for example would be like "why a naked ass" and I would say, "well cuz it's funny and awesome" Anyways, post something on the blog. :)

i can kind of understand someone being a little offended on a personal level. But there isn't a new or unusual or "artistic" idea that doesn't offend somebody or is controversial in some way. i really don't mean offense, but to hell with not doing something significant or important because someone doesn't like it.

"i don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone."

Don't art and controversy often go hand in hand? Keep that in mind.

PS. I like the idea.

If everything goes as planned Im thinking this is going to happen on Monday if anyone wants to go. Going to try to get moving about 10 or 11 depending on how people are moving.
