Openings this week...

So everyone knows... Maggie, Cale, and I have shows opening during the Hatch art walk this week! Maggie's pin ups will be in Tart in the Emerson, and Cale and I are sharing part of the space in Wild Joe's. The Art Walk is from 6 to 8 and there will be lots of free food and wine on Main street. Woo hoo!

The Lovejoy Family

"Archibald and Hilde Lovejoy" I shot this on Saturday for my senior project, which has now morphed into something along the lines of a fictitious family. These will be printed as tri-color lithographs. I'll post tons of process images as I work on them.

another 8x10 scan

This is Kevin, my friend since I was three; O, just look at him now. I'm excited that there were only a couple of newton rings on this one too. This now gives me more confidence in shooting and scanning large format, and especially shooting people and environmental portraits. I just shot two color portraits, one of a janitor and the other was a crossing-walk guard with 8x10 transparency, so we will see how those scan!

Sticky Treat

This one is for Ian. This photo is from the cookbook I photographed in January that comes out in December. The sticky, gooey treat is called Koeksisters. They're from South Africa. Have you had these Ian?

Final show

I photographed Minus the Bear in Missoula Monday night. This show will most likely be the last one for my book. I'm ready to be done with it.

My Friend in Print

This is my friend Laura. Our parents are best friends so we kind of grew up together. She now lives in Minneapolis and is featured in the new Alec Soth book (the 3rd Annual Magnum Fashion Magazine), Paris Minnesota. Hooray for her. Also, Alec Soth has a great blog: http://alecsoth.com/blog/

New Gallery in Town

This info from Dan

For anyone interested;

There is a new gallery opening at 802 N Wallace, suite a; with an opening reception this Friday from 7-9pm.

It’s the inspiration of a former art student that took 103 from me several years ago, with the hope of offering an alternative to the more commercial galleries on main.

The feature artist for the opening is Krista Morey – a painter – I think.

Check it out if you have the time; I will. I haven’t seen the space yet, but I hope it’s successful.

C ya round,

d

My installation "Dejanos a Vivir" -Let Us Live- will be showing at the Exit Gallery in the SUB (north side under First Interstate Bank) from Sept. 24 to Oct. 5 with a reception on Thursday the 27th from 5-7. This was my senior from last semester with a few modifications. I hope to see you all there, at least for the free food and booze during the reception.

FYI

The registration for Critical Mass is open now on Photo Lucida's website. It's $50 for a portfolio of 10 images.

I thought that newton rings would be my biggest problem in scanning 8x10 negs, but I only had rings in the very middle. It turns out that dust is the biggest problem considering I spent 2 hour dusting this scan.
