Self Portraits?

Here is a rough example of what I want to do with my final for 264. It's a self portrait project, and although this one is of me, the final images will be of other people in my clothing. I will be shooting with film, but this particular image was made with a paper negative. Instead of a lens, I will be using a pinhole which I made myself. The exposure for this one was 20 min. and for the first 15 I moved my head back and forth while staring directly into the pinhole. Then I just stared straight for the last 5 min. I guess you could say I'm having an "identity crisis" (for lack of a better term) and I am interested in interpreting that identity. I would love to hear your thoughts. thanks

it's great i love it.... it is eerie and endearing, inciteful and foreboding. take the introspection and personal exploration to the max and see where it leads you. can't wait to see more, i hope the movement remains a motif throughout the series.

I think you should stick with the paper negatives. I love the aesthetic that they provide.

I think the idea of a 20 minute self-portrait interesting. I think that in and of itself could make a great project. Do you have any particular reason for photographing other people?

Have you seen Mark Klett's one-hour self portrait? I love the idea of these ridiculously long exposures.

I agree with Camden, the paper neg. looks good with your process. It makes the image sort of nostalgic but with ominous undertones. And I agree you should try to incorporate the motion throughout the series.

thanks for all of your comments. i am definitely going to incorporate motion into all of my images. the obscure and unknown is what i am interested in and i think the blurring helps with that. my reasons for using other people is because i feel like i've been isolated and detached from other humans for so long that i've lost touch with myself and others, so i'm using other people to represent my unknown identity.
