too dark?

Im having a hard time deciding if some of these are too dark. When lighter, they don't seem to have the depressing cloudy feeling that I'm kinda going for. What do you think?

Workin' hard

Portraiture Teaser #2
I am finding it hard to spend hours in the shop.

Grey- Cotopaxi Region, Ecuador

I'm in South America making photographs. I am having trouble with finding a project theme to follow through my travels, but have recently been introduced to the work of Alec Soth and am playing around with the idea of not having a thesis or set subject matter, but rather focusing on individual elements that emote a certain emotion. Please let me know what you think. More at ALKmedia.com, I will be posting when I have images worth posting.

Some quick shots with the Leica 90 Summicron R

Here are a few quick portraits I kept since i've been back on R&R. Ian's post about portrait lenses got me re-interested in my old lens, and I've since decided to bring it back and start a portrait project for my last 6 months in Iraq. Let me know what you think.

printing company

Hey all.  When we were at SPE one of the booths had a little $50 off coupon, so of course it grabbed my attention.  National Photo Lab, basically another white house or aspen creek photo facility.  I have never used WHCC but I have seen all of the issues that people have with them. I needed to get some senior portraits printed stat, so I used my $50 incentive and gave it a shot.  I am sooo pleased! Not only is the quality up to the standards I need, the customer service is absolutely outrageous.  I called twice and got an actual human being without even hearing a dial tone.  Service was fast, efficient and I am 100% satisfied.  I paid a little more for them to do color correcting just to make sure the prints looked ok (it only added like $5 on to what would have been about an $80 order) In addition to the senior portraits, I had a larger landscape printed and mounted on gator board, it also looks great.

So....are you happy with your printing house??? If not, check these guys out!

Update on my portraiture project

So it has been 32 days since I started this and I am curious to get some feedback from my peers. Let me know what you think, I started with the idea of emulating Richard Renaldi and have found my own personal style since then. It has been a lot of work but I have met some really awesome people and started a lot of new friendships.

From Homelessness to Home

Hey guys. I hope everyone is doing well. I thought I'd stop by to share a new portrait project I'm working on. I'm not completely sure what the final presentation will be but I'm interviewing and photographing families who were once homeless but through the local non-profit Family Promise, they now have a home and are getting back on their feet. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the project and the portraits. The audio clip I included is a very short raw clip from the interview. Here's one family portrait but additional images and the audio clip are over on my blog.
