Senior

So here are a couple of images from my senior. . . Jace. Keep in mind these are raw scans. . .
This project explores the idea of a world rid of all dominant forms of energy. I set out to create an unsettling yet visually alluring body of work in the context of a post apocalyptic setting where individuals are forced to create energy in a pseudo primitive way. Primitive in that the subjects in my photographs strive to capture energy from their own bodies. . .

Very cool concept and I think the top three are great.

I like the anonymity of the figures in the top 3, which makes the last one less effective for myself. I guess if others will show faces then it's not an issue, just my 2¢

Nice work though!

I really like the first 3. Not that big of a fan of the 4th one.

Fantastic Libbie, this is a great improvement, I am glad you solved your concept aesthetically. These are very successful images.

alright my dear...just plugged back in to the grid temporarily. i am enjoying the aesthetic... it is dark and thought provoking (often as a post-apocalyptic world needs to be). i do agree with dan though. i enjoy the anonymity of the first 3 images. in a post apocalyptic world the recognition of our humanity needs to be ambiguous, so the distance between us and the subject needs to be distant as well in order for us to plug into the intellectual conduit you are supplying. it needs to be close enough to strike a chord but far enough to recognize it as foreign, as an alternate reality that contains potential. one issue that i have is that every image of these 4, the subject is conducting electrical power, why not other forms of energy. harnessing wind solar, some sort of vaccume, magnetic, kinetic,amplification....list goes on. why limit the energy source to powering luxuries that in the previous world were powered by electricity. i don't know where you are taking this project but what about exploring a metapysical aspect. powering the spirit perhaps....or using the spirit to power life. if u took that route than the 3rd one would fit more and even take on an enlightneing ambiance. although i would still wish that you would take the ambiguous route. i am excited to see further images. sorry this critique is so late into the semester....that would be my bad
