cable vs air release

These two photos I took in hopes to figure out where I wanted to go with this portrait project. With the further away shots I think I'll change and shoot color, more like the janitor and crossing guard images. With the closer ones I'll keep the same aesthetic.

Zak, the bottom image is really beautiful. To accommodate the cable release and cigarette, she has both of her palms turned up in a kind of sideways-Jesus-pose. It's nice.

Really interesting focus, too.

I'd like to see a little more tonal separation between her face/hair and the background.

I really enjoy the focus on the bottom image. Nice use of large format!

Really beautiful images.
I'm drawn to the textures in the house, the peorch and her coat. These textures do a wonderful job of complimenting the smoothness of her skin and hair.

And, the gas can in the background is a great, possibly symbolic, addition to the composition.

zak, i am really enjoying these as well. beautifully shot, and your use of selective focus is working really nicely with the large format. i would love to see some more work in this vein, they seem a lot more powerful than the color work if i am remembering them correctly.

The close up shot is really gorgeous. it has everything going for it. i think that if you can be as successful with the others then it will turn out great. sorry, no negative comment....
