The best yet

I know most here probably don't care about the shooting I'm doing at the Columbia Daily Tribune, but it's cool to me, so I'm going to keep posting.

Today I had what was probably my best day of sports shooting yet. Here's the slideshow I made from it: http://www.columbiatribune.com/multimedia/photo/baseball-missouri-florida/collection_be2ac7e0-aadf-11e2-ae2d-001a4bcf6878.html

Thanks, Ian! Starting to get the feel for this sports photography... Certainly learned a lot at the Tribune.

Justin, you're off to a great start. Sports is very difficult. Start cropping more aggressively. You have some great shots but I want to see them much tighter. Sports is all about facial expressions. Also, on wider shots like the guy diving for the catch, try to keep the feet in the frame so the viewer can have a reference. Since you're coming into baseball season, consider a photo essay or multimedia feature about a player or something particularly interesting. Look for the story within the story. Chat with the sports editor at your paper or even the SID for the local team. Keep up the posts, it's great seeing your work.

Thanks, Kelly. The cropping is definitely something I'm still trying to get a feel for. Hard to figure out which images can have some breathing room. As for the diving one, that was nearly full frame. I had to crop from the top right. I shot that one with a 300mm lens on.

Thanks for the tips. I'm trying to soak up as many as I can while I'm at the Tribune. Always something new to learn.
