As suggested in this article, I've had pretty good luck unchecking the resample box in 'image size' and letting the resolution go where it may. As the viewing distance increases it's difficult to tell the difference between 150ppi and 300ppi. We also use Genuine Fractals software to enlarge and maintain resolution.
