Building Camera Profiles

I just purchased an X-Rite Color checker Passport that comes with software that allows you to build color profiles for your camera. It works in Photoshop and Lightroom. So far I am very impressed. You can build profiles for all different lighting situations and then with the click of the mouse load them into any image in Camera RAW. For those of us who have trouble seeing subtle color issues this is fantastic. You can watch a video on how it works here. Mac-on-Campus sells the kit for $79 to students. We should be able to get one for the department in the fall.

From Here You Can See Africa

Here are some shots from Tarifa in Southern Spain. Totally fell in love with the town with whitewashed streets and the Atlas Mountains of Morocco looming 15 miles away across the sea. This is a kitesurfer's dream town with some of the windiest conditions on the planet (making for some really incredible photographic opportunities). Here are a few shots.

I'M GETTING PUBLISHED YO!

Hey all! I'm going to be one of the photographers/artists published in the Summer 2010 issue of the Whitefish Review book. They publish up to 4 issues a year and are going to feature me in this upcoming issue that will be released by the end of June. I submitted a few of the Windows images from Senior Spring 2009 and some of my Signs images from my advanced color book project. This image of the Ellen was what they chose.

Free Stuff

I'm cleaning up my little dungeon of an apartment and have a few things I am about to throw out. First off, I have some 52mm macro filters of some sort that I know I will never have any use for. There's a +1, +2, +4, and another one that doesn't say anything on the side.

I also have an old camera bag--the camera is for scale, not sale, because it is my precious. This thing would be fine for a 4x5 field camera or anything smaller (there are also a couple partitions for it), but it obviously will not fit a studio camera.

If either of these interest anyone, give me a call at 406.539.4335 before I manage enough motivation to walk across the parking lot to the dumpster.

Possibly More Money to Spend

Looks like we may have more money to spend on gear. Possibly around 10K. This is your chance to suggest gear you want for the department. One suggestion I saw on a previous comment was Canon glass. Will certainly consider that. Let me know.

New York Photo Festival

I attended the New York Photo Festival in the Dumbo area of Brooklyn, New York this weekend. Although I think the event could have been somewhat more organized and included more lectures and presentations, I took the most from my opportunity and met several artists, curators, and educators who have motivated me to work hard and stay passionate about photography. To give you an idea of some of the lectures I attended and artists I met I have posted some notes from the first day's lecture presented by Aperture Foundation on my blog. This lecture included talks from Justine Reyes, Hank Willis-Thomas, and Brian Ulrich. I will be posting more from the festival in the near future as time permits. I will also be posting photos from my travels as I get them developed and scanned. I hope you get a chance to read my blog and possibly leave comments. I encourage everyone to attend as many photography festivals, conferences, lectures, presentations, and exhibitions as you can as they are a great way to meet the rest of the photography community, gain valuable contacts, and attain new found passion for photography. Enjoy.

Photography is not a crime

Just thought Id pass this along. I'm stunned that this has happened, especially since this guy is working on a project involving visual artists. Its not like he was there with his buddies taking pictures of them and is just using the "photographer" excuse to get out of trouble. Everyone should have the right to document so long as they don't get involved, this is not right and I hope who ever is trying to prosecute him has some serious back lash from this.

Hello, I am copying some super8 films using the projector-to-wall-to-digital method. I am in need of a Dslr or camera that shoots HD and has manual exposure. I was using a Canon 7D and it was working great but it is away on assignment now. I'll make you dinner or equivalent reward. ken 570-9792
