Holter Art Museum
If you're headed up to the Holter to see Marta's show, make sure you also take the time to look at the work by Marie Watt on display. She is a great person who makes striking work.

some picture takins
i experimented with shooting a roll of 35 mm in my holga last week. I really love how the sprocket holes are incorporated in the image. unfortunately the piece of black tape i thought was light tight actually allowed light through the window on the back of the holga and thus came to be the red streaks... but i dont mind them too much..
Finally!
After a year of gathering materials and actual construction, I finally finished my light box capable of printing 16x20 prints. Instead of writing the 3 papers i have due tomorrow and the one i had due yesterday i decided to finally finish the wiring on this bastard. Thank you procrastination(the art of keeping up with yesterday) and hello progress. We should totally have some printing parties this summer! Just for your information, this cost me $400 for materials and lots of troubleshooting and headaches. If i can appease anyone else who is interested in building one I would be happy to divulge some info to make it easier on them.

Awkward Stock Photos
This is probably the greatest photography related blog I have ever stumbled upon. I just laughed my head off for ten minutes. If anyone tells you your photo doesn't make sense, just sell it for stock...

Scanning Issues
Has anyone ever distressed color negatives? I am doing so for the first time and whenever I try to scan I get a cyanotype-like color cast that I can't get rid of. Assignment is due tomorrow and if I can't scan...I can't print. Help! Any suggestions?
Congrats to Stephanie

Speaking of Expired Film...
I saw that Jace mentioned using expired film in an earlier post, and it reminded me that Winslow Studios has donated a big box of expired medium format film to the photo program. Most of it is color negative film, though there is a bit of Ektachrome, and most of it is 120, though there is a bit of 220 in the mix. Casually surveying some of the expiration dates, almost all of it is over ten years old. I was told it was refrigerated for much of its life, though it has spent most of the last several years out of cold storage, and simply in a basement. If you're interested, stop by checkout, and pick up a roll or two!

Learning experiance inside another
Hey guys, thought I'd share this little lesson with you guys.
Ive got an assignment with MSU News Services right now where I'm photographing grad. students for a brochure that they are putting together. This is one of Amin Nehrir a grad student in the one of the engineering departments. He's working with and building lasers that are fired up into the sky and measure particles and moisture in the atmosphere. The laser that he's using in the background as I was photographing was messing with the sync of my strobes. It caught me off guard at first because everything was set right and I had done a few test shots that were fine. Blocking the laser light from the command unit on my camera solved the problem and I ended up with some good images. Something to do with frequency that the laser was firing at messes with the infared signal the strobes use to communicate. Fun eh?

What I've been up to...

A few from the 264 final I am working on, then an unrelated portrait of happy Bennie in Cheever. For the final I am suggesting possible manifestations of what lies dormant in the subconscious or metaphysical realm. I'll have some more in the coming weeks, but these are a few that show where I am right now.
Corey Arnold
This fellow seems to work on a fishing boat and takes great pictures. You think you take pictures in burly situations? His website has an annoying drop down menu, but his photos are really great.
