SFP Network Meeting and Guest Lecture

School of Film and Photography meeting tonight in studio B at 6:00.

Followed by a guest lecture in the Procrastinator, given by alum and Bozeman native Brian Van't Hull at 7:00. Should be impressive. He has worked on The Nightmare Before Christmas, done visual effects on all the LOTR movies, Forrest Gump, I Robot, King Kong and last but not least, (Oscar winning effects on) Coraline.

If you are interested in film and visual effects, you should go and be enriched. And show support for the School of Film and Photography and Natural History Film Making. SFPNHFM. Whoa.

Upheaval

Hey, ya!

Applications for Upheaval are due Friday, Nov 20th. That, my fellow students, is this friday. You may submit up to 20 pieces, and it costs ten bucks plus ten percent of sales. Do it! Put some padding in your wallet, or maybe buy some art and put padding in someone else's wallet. Buy a gift.

Remember, we make money not art.

The Upheaval (a revolution of the arts) show/sale is open from Nov 30th until Dec 3rd. Booyah

An invite to Seniors to Pro Practices

I'd like to invite any seniors who may be interested in a career in sports photography to Pro Practices on Wednesday November 18th. Our guest speaker (via skype) is Sam Forencich, who is the team photographer for the NBA Portland Trailblazers. Class runs from 1:10p-3:00p in room 148.

The Postcards are Here!

Hey Seniors!  The senior photo show postcards are here.  There are 34 of us showing and so that gives us each about 30 postcards to send out to friends and family.  Some of us may have more people to send these to than others and if that's the case only take as many as you'll truly need. Should you guys think that we need more postcards then we can always order a few more from instiprints or something.  We should have enough money in the budget to account for that but I think that 1,000 cards is fine.

Would someone like to share why I had to discover this today in the advanced lab????? Yes, if you can't tell that is mold and who knows what else is growing all over. It smells worse than it looks. It is one thing to not clean up your advanced lab and leave a mess for everyone else to deal with, but this is OVER THE LINE! It is absolutely inconsiderate but more importantly it is becoming a HEALTH HAZARD!

WHOEVER YOU ARE, GET IN THE LAB AND CLEAR OUT YOUR DISGUSTING CRAP!

Events this week

Whooooo! Art stuff!! Ian, Jace and Megan and Scott are in a show at Capelli's. This Thursday, 6 till 9. Cross the railroad tracks on Rouse, first right and take a right on Bond. I guess there's a bunch of photo stuff and something else going on, but I'm not sure...ask one of those kids or consult the flyers... * In other bozeman-art-world news, the Ceramics Guild Annual Chili Feed is the 17th and 18th (tuesday weds, 11-2) of this month. Buy a wonderful handmade bowl and it will be filled with tasty, zesty chili (vegetarians welcome!!). You can also purchase a handmade metal spoon! Oh, the wonders! Bowls $15, Spoons $5. * Yall better 'spec the poster around for the chili feed. Doodled by yours truly. * Ceramics Guild show at the Exit Gallery, Tuesday the 17th. 5 to 7 pm. Whoo! So I can't really decide which way to go with this cookie layout. Any thoughts? I'm aiming more towards the industrial look rather than the home setting with the tea cup and pot. Just let me know.

Here is one recipe layout for my book. This is the recipe that my Mom has baked for us since we were really little. It's delicious and has homemade crust. I highly recommend Pork Sausage and Fresh Mushrooms.

Tuscan Sunrise

Luciano, one of the three photogs here in Siena took us to a cool hill about 35km out of Siena where we could watch the sunrise in Tuscany. Max, Chris, Whitney and I had a great time and the sunrise was really amazing. There were some random "modern art" structures just jetting out of the ground, hence the first three pictures. PS sorry for the jpg artifacts, blogger smashed the crap outta 'em.

New Goods Recently Arrived in Photo Checkout

Freshly delivered this morning, photo checkout has received a new 16x20 contact printing frame from Bostick & Sullivan. It's made of elm, and still has that new-contact-printing-frame smell (varnish). It's available to check out now, if you're interested.

Also, while I'm thinking of it, checkout acquired two Garmin GPS units during the summer. Those of you participating in the Bozeman Survey Project may find these to be particularly helpful accessories.

Another subtle and recent addition to checkout's camera fleet recently came in the form of a Lomo LC-A donated to the department by Professor Christina Z. Anderson. It's an itty-bitty 35mm film camera, with a fixed 32mm 2.8 lens, and its only automatic feature is exposure. It's a little fancier than a Holga, but quite a bit smaller, so if you like saturated colors and a bit of vignetting, you should give this little camera a try.
