Hey people!
The school is looking into what printer to buy and this is a poll to find out how many of you photo people would realistically print 44" wide if we had a printer that could do it?
Don't reply just if you think it would be cool - only reply if you would actually definitely positively invest the money into paper that size. Keep in mind that a 44" roll of good paper such as Canson/Moab is going to be at least $250 and up for a 50 foot roll.
Who would be in?

DUDE. YES. We NEED an epson 9900. 4x5 foot prints from 8x10 transparencies anyone?
this probably will happen after we graduate huh? It would be awesome!
Absolutely. Just don't set it up for mat paper
Debbie Downer says:
"The only problem is that you cannot scan higher than 2040 dpi for a 4x5 neg on the Imacon, thus we would have to use the v750 to achieve a higher dpi unfortunately. Which kind of leaves us in a grey zone whether or not to use the Imacon (get a better scan) or use the flatbed and inherently print larger. It doesn't make any sense really."
Resolution:
Lets get a drum scanner and a 9900!
whatever debbie
yes i would use it but we would also need a larger press
I would be in for sure...very fitting for next semester's project. Agree with Aiden though, bigger press? 40x60 vacuum maybe?
larger press and better scans
I like Debbie's point.
Debbie, that's what 8x10, the Mamiya and Nodal Ninja are for.
Actually, I have made 44 inch prints scanned from 6x7 on a 4990 that looked good. You just gotta know how to work with the grain.
Mark,it is unlikely we have space for a 40x60 vacuum frame. Plus they start at $7,500. A wide laminator is much more likely.
soooo...
does that mean we are getting one?
did my reverse psychology work?
If y'all do get one, I'll be super jealous. And excited to see giant prints!!
Ooo... yeah, when would this happen? Because I would definitely use it, buuuut if I'm gone I suppose my opinion wouldn't really count. Another question would be that if the money didn't go to this, what else would you be considering?
Mark we won't have this by the time we graduate.
8x10 provia >>> 4x5 acrlic bond prints. I will display them with a pedestal next to each one with a velvet pillow holding a magnifying glass to experience the immense detail
Haha! Foulkes, I like it!
