"In 1971, Sheila Turner-Seed interviewed Henri Cartier-Bresson in his Paris studio for a film-strip series on photographers that she produced, with Cornell Capa, for Scholastic. After her death in 1979 at the age of 42, that interview, along with others she had conducted, sat like a time capsule in the archives of the International Center of Photography in New York.

That is, until 2011, when Ms. Turner-Seed’s daughter, Rachel Seed, learned of their existence and went to I.C.P. to study the tapes. It was a profound experience for her, since she was 1 when her mother died and did not remember her voice."

KODAK HAS STOPPED MANUFACTURING ACETATE BASE.

This Rochester News Report tells us that Kodak has officially shut down it's acetate manufacturing plant. The 60 employee jobs that were released will have no significant impact on the bankrupt company.

Disclaimer: The video states that although Kodak will stop manufacturing acetate in-house, they still have years worth of stockpile for continued film production. After their own stock of acetate base runs out they plan to outsource acetate production to another company to continue manufacture of film.

Paid Internship in Jackson Hole, WY.

Now available: Paid internship working in the office for photographer Thomas Mangelsen (www.mangelsen.com) in Jackson Hole, WY.

This is not an “in the field” position but rather an office support position. The primary role is assisting with the downloading and logging of video. Additionally the intern will help with cataloging the digital archive of still images by assigning keywords for a photo stock library.

Attention to detail, spelling, grammar and organization are critical. Other duties will be assigned based on experience and skills.

Additional duties may include scanning and dusting of slides, and potentially some photo editing of images for different projects and submissions.

The intern will get to see and participate in the general workings of the office staff of Thomas Mangelsen. You will work with Tom directly on occasion and possibly participate in editing for different projects including a print release to the galleries.

Required Skills: Photoshop, basic computer skills, detail oriented and a hard worker. Familiarity with Final Cut, as well as wildlife biology knowledge and good writing skills would be advantageous.

A photo from my last senior project was accepted into an online juried exhibition @ PhotoPlace Gallery. Caleb Cole chose 40 images for the gallery in Vermont and 35 for the online gallery. Soon they will publish a book through Blurb of all the selected images. Check out their website to see all the sweet self portraits people are making.

Here's some images for my advanced color final. The image quality was not what I initially expected, but to my benefit, the shit quality is want I'm looking for. These were shot with extremely expired slide film which I cross-processed...only to find the whole box is fogged. Yikes. When I pulled the rolls out of the tank they looked as if they hadn't been fixed at all...so I cried, thinking I was screwed. But then I scanned these dense/bullet proof negatives to find magic. 

The images all have slight color casts. Generally a mint flavor or bubblegum sensation. Can't decide if I should keep the casts or nix'em. Project shall be in book form...I may be feelin' the casts. 

The project deals with the recollection of our memories. Exploring what's left behind, if there's anything left at all. What's fading. What's vague. What we desperately desire to hold onto.

Internship possibility

A couple weeks ago, on one of our 60 degree days, the Advanced Color class took a field trip to the Gallagator Trail. Here's what I got! Shot with the Mamiya RB67 on some super expired Kodak E6 slide film. Cross-processed with C-41 chemistry. Lovely.
The dog's name is Lola. 
She's cute.

Paris For A Day

I was able to spend a little over 24 hours in Paris last week and I thought I would share a few of the images that came from it. I'm planning a broader series with images similar to these so please, show a girl some love and let me know what you think!!! Samhain

 These are the first images created for a series I am working on for my graduate school application.  THEY ARE STILL UNEDITED. They are shot with arista 4x5 and then the negatives are mordancaged and VERY meticulously manipulated.  The series is loosely based on me recently moving to a large city (san francisco) and having difficulties dealing with the loss of my ability to relate to the environmental surroundings.  Samhain (Sow-Win) is a Pagan celebration of the moment whenever the veils between this world and the next are at their thinnest.  This moment symbolizes the instance in which everything dies so that it may be reborn again and it acts as a metaphor for the re-definition of my environs.  I am excited for the development of this project and welcome any criticism and/or feedback.  Please tell me what you guys think.
