Better Scanning Trays

After reading about Jackson's success last year with the "Better Scanning" trays, I had to give it a shot. I just completed a whole bunch of tests and this is what I have gathered. The top image is a 100 percent crop @ 2400 DPI with the standard Epson 4x5 plastic trays that come with the V-750. The bottom is also a 100 percent crop @2400 DPI with the Better Scanning 4x5 tray. The difference in quality can easily be seen. The Better Scanning 4x5 tray is a little different than their medium and smaller format trays, in that you can either wet or dry mount the sheet to the glass. I opted for the anti-newton ring glass so I could dry mount (faster and easier) or have the option of wet mounting. What really made the difference was a matter of .2mm.

Street Vendors

Here is a quick unedited scan of a portrait I made about a week ago in Union Square. It is for my street vendor series, in which the USP grant is supporting. This guy was ridiculous. He was rehearsing to me a very fictional and confusing story about "Sausage Head" (the book he is holding). He was very anxious to leave and I literally set up the tripod, leveled the camera, focused, put the film in and pulled the darkslide in under 2 minutes flat. Everyone moves so fast in the city, I still do not know where 95 percent are going. I am also pretty sure cab drivers are like hermit crabs, once one car dies they crawl into the next and drive away.

Warped Tour Documentary Project

Hey guys! I'm trying to raise funds to head out on this Summer's Van's Warped Tour. I've started a Kickstarter page (great site to keep in mind for projects), and if any of you know anyone who can donate even a dollar to help me out on the road this Summer I would be eternally grateful. Thank you in advance, have a great Summer, and I hope to see some of you around the country on Warped! Here is a summary of my proposal...

I'll be heading out on this Summer's Van's Warped Tour. My job will be documenting several bands for various publications, and companies. In addition what I really want to do is complete a portraiture project documenting how the bands change physically from week to week as well as interview members to document how relationships change over the grueling two month tour. This is a project I want to continue after Warped is over with other touring musicians, but I figure that Warped is the best possible tour to begin, due to the high concentration of artists, and the diversity that lies in each bus. Atheists share buses with Christian acts, while bands partaking in drugs share tight quarters with straight edge kids. It's a strange microcosm of the music scene, where youngsters and veterans share the same stage and fans every day, and it's been a dream of mine to document it for eight years. Your support will help reimburse the cost of riding on a bus each day ($100 a day), and help to cover health insurance and student loan interest. I'll post daily updates, interviews, and photos from the tour on a blog so that backers can see my progress out on the road.

Climbing Season is Here!

Hey all! I hope you are enjoying your summer as much as i am. I just ordered a fixed 50mm 1.4f lens and i am having a lot of fun with it. Generally as a rule i have not mixed my passion with climbing with photography but being as i may need to make a little mula one day i have been foraying into the genre. These are a couple images i have taken this week that are briefly edited. What do you guys think, those of you that are on here anyway. The two of me were taken by Mr. Ian Cavinaugh himself (i think i mispelled that).

Pete Eckert

I found this photographer on Artists Wanted. He does some amazing work using long exposures and painting with light. You might want to look at his work before you read his bio.
