260 Final

So these are a few shots from my 260 final. These are images from three of the four triptychs, for a general idea. I'm trying to explore feelings of entrapment and denial through the subconscious, and how a hypothetical person struggles with repression. Each set will cover a different part of the struggle...what do you guys think?

Final Project for 260.....kitchen sinks!

Playing with ideas of repetition and how something everyone has can be different in each case.

new flash!

Hey Senior Peeps

So good news. My Uncle and my Dad are coming for the senior show and they're bringing a trailer with them to help us take the Poster Panels to the Emerson on the day of the show. We need people to come in and help us set up. Not only this but we need you all to stay and clean up after yourselves the night of the show. And we will need help loading the panels back into the Trailer Tuesday night too. See you guys tomorrow night in class.

Photography in the future!

By the time you are old and your (future?) degree is useless, this is what photography will be. You will be about as useful as a floppy disk. But the "pictures" will look really neat. I think I'm still confused...but I like it. Huh.

Constructs

A series involving readymades and simple constructs. I build a simple monument, document it, then break it apart. While taking the image, I make sure to include the physical space the construct is in. By doing this, I not only document the construct I've made, but also give the objects a sense of time and place. I still have more to shoot, any suggestions on anything? Shot with a Pentax Asahi 6x7 with Fuji 160c

Picture Black Friday

Shawn Records, from Photolucida, sent me an email this morning to pass on to students. He said "make your students do this". I won't force anything on you here, but I can think of several good reasons to submit to this. 1) gives you experience of being on assignment, plus a chance to write a caption if you are so inclined. 2) solid group of jurors looking at your work. 3) it is free to submit. One aspect to consider is how you can Picture Black Friday in a smaller populated area. I would imagine that Black Friday looks much different in Bellevue Idaho (calling on you Jackson) than it does in New Jersey. The jurors might find it refreshing to see work that isn't just about people fighting for merchandise in Walmart.

We Had An "Incident" Today

Today in the labs we had an incident. The least used dry mount press became disgruntled and attacked Augie. Augie is fine but the dry mount press may be less fortunate. We currently still deciding the final fate of the dry mount press, whether or not to try to relocate it to an uninhabited location in northern Canada or humanely put it down. Till then, BEWARE! This may happen to you! (dramatic reverb) This has been a public announcement brought to you by Checkout.

260 Final

For my final I am working exclusively with out-of-focus shots that are just to express the simple aspects of a photograph, which include color and form. So, I've gotten out to shoot for it once and I got a few images I like so I'm just curious for feedback. Blurry enough? Am I heading in a good direction with them?

ATTN: SENIORS (POSTCARD INFO)

Okay everyone, the box of postcards will be dropped off at Checkout today before noon! ONLY TAKE UP TO 30 CARDS PER PERSON. If you don't have a need for that many, either leave the rest in the box so we can hand them out for advertising, or take them to a local business and ask if you can leave a few on their counter. I was going to divide them all up but I think it will be easier for you all to grab what you need since we all practically live at the VCB. Thanks and have a nice day!

Calendar

Yo what up my ninjas. I just added a new feature to the trusty MSU Photo Blog. If you let your eye wander on over to the (almost) top right side panel, you will see a calendar. It is linked to the SFP Calendar. I have been trying to post on the regular (lately) about up and coming local events.

Keep and eye on this nifty new feature. Be a part of the community and support the people who will support you. It's important. You need this.

To view events, open the link in a new tab.

I want to post art openings, guest lectures, show deadlines. Anything about artists in Bozeman and MSU. And maybe even the surrounding area.

Also, if there are any events that you would like posted, email me at augustcary at gmail dot com. Or email Cam at cfosterphoto at gmail dot com.

love, Augie

SFP Network Meeting and Guest Lecture

School of Film and Photography meeting tonight in studio B at 6:00.

Followed by a guest lecture in the Procrastinator, given by alum and Bozeman native Brian Van't Hull at 7:00. Should be impressive. He has worked on The Nightmare Before Christmas, done visual effects on all the LOTR movies, Forrest Gump, I Robot, King Kong and last but not least, (Oscar winning effects on) Coraline.

If you are interested in film and visual effects, you should go and be enriched. And show support for the School of Film and Photography and Natural History Film Making. SFPNHFM. Whoa.

Sorry for being such short notice...I'm trying my hardest!

Alright folks which one?

These have not been color corrected, or dusted. Just let me know which composition you prefer and why. Thanks.

Upheaval

Hey, ya!

Applications for Upheaval are due Friday, Nov 20th. That, my fellow students, is this friday. You may submit up to 20 pieces, and it costs ten bucks plus ten percent of sales. Do it! Put some padding in your wallet, or maybe buy some art and put padding in someone else's wallet. Buy a gift.

Remember, we make money not art.

The Upheaval (a revolution of the arts) show/sale is open from Nov 30th until Dec 3rd. Booyah

An invite to Seniors to Pro Practices

I'd like to invite any seniors who may be interested in a career in sports photography to Pro Practices on Wednesday November 18th. Our guest speaker (via skype) is Sam Forencich, who is the team photographer for the NBA Portland Trailblazers. Class runs from 1:10p-3:00p in room 148.

The Postcards are Here!

Hey Seniors!  The senior photo show postcards are here.  There are 34 of us showing and so that gives us each about 30 postcards to send out to friends and family.  Some of us may have more people to send these to than others and if that's the case only take as many as you'll truly need. Should you guys think that we need more postcards then we can always order a few more from instiprints or something.  We should have enough money in the budget to account for that but I think that 1,000 cards is fine.

Wich one?

I'm stuck between these two images for my project for 260

or

or the first rotated (so three i guess)

thanks =]

Whoa.

This video is amazing. I want to be a photographer!! wait a second...

THIS IS 100% UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would someone like to share why I had to discover this today in the advanced lab????? Yes, if you can't tell that is mold and who knows what else is growing all over. It smells worse than it looks. It is one thing to not clean up your advanced lab and leave a mess for everyone else to deal with, but this is OVER THE LINE! It is absolutely inconsiderate but more importantly it is becoming a HEALTH HAZARD!
WHOEVER YOU ARE, GET IN THE LAB AND CLEAR OUT YOUR DISGUSTING CRAP!

Events this week

Whooooo! Art stuff!! Ian, Jace and Megan and Scott are in a show at Capelli's. This Thursday, 6 till 9. Cross the railroad tracks on Rouse, first right and take a right on Bond. I guess there's a bunch of photo stuff and something else going on, but I'm not sure...ask one of those kids or consult the flyers... * In other bozeman-art-world news, the Ceramics Guild Annual Chili Feed is the 17th and 18th (tuesday weds, 11-2) of this month. Buy a wonderful handmade bowl and it will be filled with tasty, zesty chili (vegetarians welcome!!). You can also purchase a handmade metal spoon! Oh, the wonders! Bowls $15, Spoons $5. * Yall better 'spec the poster around for the chili feed. Doodled by yours truly. * Ceramics Guild show at the Exit Gallery, Tuesday the 17th. 5 to 7 pm. Whoo! Come support your art. Refreshments &c. It'll be great! * love, Augie

Which Layout?

So I can't really decide which way to go with this cookie layout. Any thoughts? I'm aiming more towards the industrial look rather than the home setting with the tea cup and pot. Just let me know.

"did you have all these dreams?"

the answer is not really...some i did but mostly they're twisted and consciously manipulated interpretations of dreams i had...or my interpretation of others' dreams......maybe THIS is all a dream......anyway, the titles are in comments as usual.

Blueberry Pancakes

And these are my Blueberry Pancake pages. The text has been the hardest part and the layout of the recipe page. Also I was wondering what you guys thought of numbering the pages? I guess I would need to if I have a recipe index but I wasn't sure if I should just number every other page or all pages???

Home Baked Pizza

Here is one recipe layout for my book. This is the recipe that my Mom has baked for us since we were really little. It's delicious and has homemade crust. I highly recommend Pork Sausage and Fresh Mushrooms.

Senior switch?

Hi Seniors. Is anyone in group 2 or 3 able to show early? I have to switch with someone! Please help!

Portraits for my 260 book

Three images shot for my book. It's a book of portraits shot with very narrow depth of field with a strong focus on the eyes.

My Little Helper

Tuscan Sunrise

Luciano, one of the three photogs here in Siena took us to a cool hill about 35km out of Siena where we could watch the sunrise in Tuscany. Max, Chris, Whitney and I had a great time and the sunrise was really amazing. There were some random "modern art" structures just jetting out of the ground, hence the first three pictures. PS sorry for the jpg artifacts, blogger smashed the crap outta 'em.

New Goods Recently Arrived in Photo Checkout

Freshly delivered this morning, photo checkout has received a new 16x20 contact printing frame from Bostick & Sullivan. It's made of elm, and still has that new-contact-printing-frame smell (varnish). It's available to check out now, if you're interested.

Also, while I'm thinking of it, checkout acquired two Garmin GPS units during the summer. Those of you participating in the Bozeman Survey Project may find these to be particularly helpful accessories.

Another subtle and recent addition to checkout's camera fleet recently came in the form of a Lomo LC-A donated to the department by Professor Christina Z. Anderson. It's an itty-bitty 35mm film camera, with a fixed 32mm 2.8 lens, and its only automatic feature is exposure. It's a little fancier than a Holga, but quite a bit smaller, so if you like saturated colors and a bit of vignetting, you should give this little camera a try.
