MTA Network

Hey kiddos! Just in case you are interested (as you SHOULD BE!) the MTA Network is up and running again this semester Wednesday nights at 5:30. Sorry this is late notice for this week... but it really important that we make ourselves visible in the MTA community. Plus the film kids are actually really cool people despite what some people in our department might tell you. Oh and free pizza is always a plus too! Come on people!

{It's a DOG eat DOG world}

So I'm photographing dogs for my senior project.  I've been influenced by  Anna Kuperberg.  She photographs weddings, dogs, and children.  I enjoy her style and I thought that I would share her website with everyone.  Oh and if you need a little laugh you should check out one of her blogs entitled slobberspace

Get RAM for your Mac on the cheap

If you're looking to get more RAM for your Mac, check out Crucial.com's Mac Memory Upgrades.

Crucial offers high quality RAM, and at much cheaper prices than Apple's memory upgrades, even when you are buying a new system direct from Apple.

For large amounts of RAM, the price savings is pretty dramatic:

MacBook Pro 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 15" (See product page)
Crucial 4GB RAM $130
Apple 4GB RAM $700 (upgrade when buying a new)

Note: Unfortunately, if you have an older MacBook Pro, your maximum RAM may only be 2-3GB. Crucial will display the maximum RAM available for your system as seen in the screenshot below.

3 cheers for our very own Chris Anderson!

Congrats to Chris Anderson for being elected to the SPE board! Can't wait to see you in Denver.

MSU grads

I think the MSU Blog would be a great way to stay in touch with graduates of the program and see what they are up to photography wise. So if any of you are in touch with any old grads who might want to participate (Chris T. do you think any of your classmates would be interested?) please let me know so I can invite them.

I finally got around to making my first scan from the Type 55 negatives I made for my domestic worker series. Looks like I will have to fluid mount to get rid of the film curl. I sure hope Polaroid never stops making this film. It has just the most gorgeous tones.

"The Mexican Suitcase"

Here is a great article in the NY Times about the recently recovered negatives of Robert Capa. The negatives were taken during the Spanish Civil War. The discovery might put to rest the controversy surrounding his picture "The Falling Soldier" which many believe was staged. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/27/arts/design/27kenn.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

Copyright...friend or foe?

I stumbled across a fascinating lecture by a Google employee that I think would be beneficial for anyone in our field:

The lecturer is speaking within the context of the internet and focuses mostly on illegal music sharing and Google's indexing methods, but it provides great background information and raises some interesting philosophical questions about copyright law.

I can't help but wonder what kinds of distribution methods might work for photography in this utopian (read: copyright-free) world.

Kevin Connolly is on ABCNews.com! and so am I!

So I was blown away last night to hear of friend, Kevin Connolly's success with his "rolling exhibition". In case you haven't heard, ABC's 20/20 did a feature on Kevin and his unique approach to photography. Congrats to Kevin on getting his work out there and telling the world his amazing story. It will be exciting to see what comes out of this awesome opportunity. I did some work with Kevin in the Spring of 2007 and he recently added me as a link to his personal website www.kevinmichaelconnolly.com where a few of my portraits are exhibited. The real news came when I viewed abcnews.com and saw my photos along with the feature on Kevin. See the article here. This little shoot with a friend turned into a great opportunity as I have had over 5000 hits on my site just a few days after the feature aired on 20/20. Thanks Kevin and best of luck with the future success of the "The Rolling Exhibition".
